About

Academic Practice & Innovation

"Science refines what art imagines — together, they shape the future of healing."

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Shan Shan Jing remains deeply committed to academic inquiry, research, and teaching. Her work is guided by curiosity, precision, and a belief that true innovation begins with understanding. Her academic journey has taken her from the anatomy laboratory to the operating theatre, from international podiums to peer-reviewed journals — always with the same purpose: to refine, to question, and to contribute meaningfully to the field of plastic surgery.

Dr Jing’s research spans reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and microsurgical innovation. She has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals, including the British Journal of Dermatology, BMJ, Journal of Hand Surgery, and JPRAS. Her work explores the delicate interplay between form and function — from the management of rare nerve tumours to advancements in reconstructive techniques and the subtle nuances of aesthetic surgery.

She has presented her research at major national and international conferences across Europe, North America, and Asia, and has received multiple awards for both oral and poster presentations from professional bodies such as BSSH, BAPRAS, FESSH, ASSH, and BAAPS. Her academic contributions have been recognised through more than 30 scientific and presentation prizes, reflecting her commitment to both scientific rigour and artistic sensitivity within surgical practice.

In academia, as in the operating theatre, Dr Jing strives to balance precision with creativity — where evidence guides, intuition inspires, and artistry defines the outcome.
